Who are we?
Wet-seal began in 1984 in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, when our founder, Mike Ellis, recognised that there was an urgent need in the home construction industry for a waterproofing system that could be relied on. Mike had been working with fibreglass for some time and developed a system of waterproofing using fibreglass that has stood the test of time for over twenty years.
Mike expanded the business taking on several partners and after several successful years working in the field they began appointing licensees, most of whom became franchisees when the company changed over to a franchising system in 1991. The group has continued to expand and now boasts over sixty franchisees in Australia and New Zealand, with well advanced plans to enter additional overseas markets.
The Corporate Office of Wet-seal is still located in Coffs Harbour and currently houses fourteen members of the support team. Wet-seal also operates a Marketing Office in Queensland and a Technical Office in Melbourne.
Mike Ellis, the founder, and Kevin Tighe, one of the original partners, are both actively involved in the running of the business, bringing with them nearly twenty five years of personal experience in waterproofing.
Wet-seal prides itself on being the industry leader in waterproofing, and has been successful to the extent that the term “Wet-seal” has become synonymous with “waterproofing”. Most of the standards for waterproofing stipulated in the Building Code of Australia are based on the Wet-seal system.
Whilst Wet-seal’s fibreglass based internal system has stood the test of time, they have always been mindful of the need to develop new, more environmentally friendly products. After nearly twenty years of looking and after testing literally hundreds of membranes, Wet-seal came to the conclusion that the only way they were going to be able to find a product that was superior to what they already had was to develop it themselves.
Not only has Wet-seal developed this new range of products, they have commenced manufacturing them on site. This move into manufacturing, as well as the overall growth of the company, prompted the need to move in April 2009 to a brand new multi million dollar purpose built larger premises.”
After several years of development and testing this exciting new range of products is now being released into the network and will be instrumental in Wet-seal maintaining their position as the Rolls Royce of waterproofing.
